Don’t worry, in the world of nutrition such cravings are normal, in this article we are gonna teach you how to hack your cravings, so you don’t mess up your diet. 

The Science Behind Sugar Cravings.

As stated before sugar cravings are completely normal and do not mean you lack self-control. Such craving are caused by low energy levels, your body is really smart, so when you get those cravings it’s your body’s way of telling you your energy levels are too low.

Our bodies also love carbohydrates as they are  our number one source of energy. When your energy is really low your body will crave carbohydrates in the quickest and most convenient form which are simple carbs like sweets or a sugary drink. The problem is these will give you a huge energy boost but it will be short-lived and you will be back craving sugar again. 

Hack #1: Eat more carbs

If you are constantly suffering from sugar cravings is because your carbs are too low, make sure to eat a lot of complex carbs which produce a slow release into your blood sugar for energy and satiety.

 Good options are root vegetables like squash and sweet potato, fibrous fruits like banana and berries, whole grains like steel-cut oats and brown rice, and legumes like beans.

Hack #2: Satisfy your sugar craving with fresh fruit or dark chocolate

When you get those sugar craving don’t run to grab a packet of sweets, opt for fibre-rich fruits like apples, berries, and bananas. These will not only feel you up but also contain natural sugars which is better than the sucrose pumped into sweets. 

Dark chocolate with at least 70% cocoa is a great option that typically has a much lower ratio of added sugar.

Hack #3: Make guilt-free versions of your favourite desserts

Whether it’s using calorie free sweeteners or just healthier ingredients, the best way to stop yourself from running to processed desserts is to make tasty albeit healthy versions yourself. The worst thing you can do is deprive yourself, that is the quickest way to end up giving up on your diet.
